From Pills to Possibilities: My Wild Ride Through Pharmacy School

Hey there! It’s Manasa here—welcome to Life in rx, where we spill the tea on life-saving drugs, unexpected detours, and all the chaos in between.

Today, I’m sharing my rollercoaster ride through eight semesters (yeah, eight!). You might think pharmacy school is all about white lab coats and fancy pill bottles, but nah—it’s more like solo hostel adventures, caffeine-free all-nighters (yes, I survived without coffee), and enough plot twists to rival a K-Drama.

So, buckle up, grab your snacks, and let’s dive in!

1st Year: The “What Did I Sign Up For?” Phase

Picture this: bright-eyed, bushy-tailed me walking into my very first lecture, dreaming about whipping up life-saving drugs like some kind of pharmacy superhero. And then—BAM!—reality hit me square in the face with Pharmaceutical Analysis.

Yup, my first-ever class wasn’t some chill intro—it was Pharmaceutical Analysis, aka the academic version of a boss fight. Imagine formulas flying at you like dodgeballs, and you don’t even have time to duck. I swear I thought, “Did I accidentally enroll in rocket science?” But plot twist—I survived. And even crazier? I ended up loving that subject. Funny how life works, huh?

Subjects that made me question my life choices:

Pharmaceutical Analysis (toughest boss battle of the year)

Human Anatomy and Physiology (hello, endless diagrams!)

Pharmaceutics (because pills don’t make themselves)

Inorganic Chemistry (me vs. the periodic table)

Remedial Mathematics (science background? Math still got me)

Communication Skills (because explaining complex stuff without sounding like a robot is a skill)

Now, about hostel life—let’s just say, it wasn’t exactly what you’d expect from those dramatic student stories. I stayed in a private hostel where literally no one cared if you studied or snoozed all day. You want to hit the books? Cool. You want to binge sleep like it’s an Olympic sport? No one’s stopping you.

And guess what? I was the only person from my college there. So, I had this whole mysterious vibe going—like some undercover pharmacy agent. People didn’t even know what I was studying. They probably thought I was plotting to take over the world or just really, really dedicated to napping.

2nd Year: When Things Got Real (And So Did the Textbooks)

By second year, I thought I had pharmacy school figured out. Spoiler: I was wrong—again. This is when Pharmacology entered the scene, and suddenly, I wasn’t just memorizing chemical names—I was learning how drugs actually work in the body.

Me, trying to memorize drug mechanisms:

Me: “Let’s remember this.”

Brain: Forgets everything five minutes later.

Meanwhile, hostel life continued its chill vibes. No late-night study groups, no loud debates—just me, my books, and a bunch of people who probably thought I was on some secret mission. Honestly, it felt like I was in my own solo adventure series.

3rd Year: The Internship Chronicles (A.K.A. The “I Might Survive This” Year)

Fast forward to third year, and things started clicking. Enter: my internship at Synthiya Laboratories Pvt. Ltd. in Pondicherry. This was the moment I stepped out of the classroom and into the real world.

Let me tell you—real-life labs? Nothing like the textbooks. Machines that looked like spaceships, lab coats that made me feel like a scientist (even when I had no clue what I was doing), and enough trial-and-error moments to keep me humble.

160 hours later, I finally made peace with HPLC. At first, it was like trying to operate a spaceship with no manual, but by the end, I was like, “Look at me, running this thing like a pro!” (Okay, maybe not a pro, but you get the idea.)

4th Year: The Plot Twist Year

Just when I thought I had this whole pharmacy thing on lock, life threw me a curveball. Enter: Regulatory Affairs—the subject that sounds boring but is secretly super important. It’s not just about making drugs; it’s about making sure they’re safe, effective, and legal before they reach patients. Basically, it’s like being the gatekeeper of the pharma world.

But the biggest plot twist? I started looking beyond pharmacy. I found myself drawn to Healthcare Management, Public Health, and even Life Science Consulting. Suddenly, it wasn’t just about making drugs—it was about changing the healthcare game.

So, What’s Next?

After four years of struggles, solo hostel adventures, and unexpected “aha!” moments, I’m ready to take on the world. Whether it’s diving deeper into Regulatory Affairs, exploring Healthcare Management, or venturing into Clinical Trials, I know one thing—I’ve got this.

But here’s the real deal: this blog isn’t just about my journey—it’s about yours too. Whether you’re a pharmacy student drowning in textbooks, a healthcare enthusiast, or just someone figuring life out, I hope my story makes you laugh, inspires you to keep going, and reminds you that every struggle is just part of the adventure.

Wait, Did I Mention K-Dramas?

Now, if you’re wondering how I survived all this without turning into a zombie—it’s simple: K-Dramas, C-Dramas, J-Dramas, I-Dramas… and of course, BTS! Yep, when I wasn’t buried in textbooks, I was busy binge-watching dramas and vibing to BTS like my life depended on it. Trust me, nothing beats the stress of exams like a good K-Drama plot twist or a BTS anthem blasting in your ears.

But that’s a story for another day! Stay tuned for my next blog, where I’ll spill all the tea on how K-Dramas (and a little Namjoon wisdom) kept me sane through pharmacy school. Spoiler alert: It involves a lot of late-night drama marathons and maybe a few emotional breakdowns over fictional characters. (Don’t judge me!)

Let’s Connect!

Got your own pharmacy survival story? Struggling with Pharmacology (trust me, I’ve been there)? Or maybe you’ve discovered a hidden passion like I did? I’d love to hear from you!

Drop a comment, share your wildest study mishap, or just say hi. And don’t forget to follow me on Instagram at @LifeIn_Rx_07—where I’ll be sharing more stories, study tips, and maybe a few BTS tracks to keep things fun. Because honestly, everything is better with a little BTS in the background.

Stay curious, stay inspired, and remember—life’s too short for boring stories.

Love,

Manasa
