How the Lockdown Led Me to Discover My Passion for Pharmacy

Welcome to Life in Rx!

Hey, I'm Manasa! This space is all about my journey through the world of pharmacy—from my B Pharma days to where I’m headed next. But it’s not just about textbooks and lab coats; I'll be sharing my personal thoughts, experiences, and everything in between. Whether you're a fellow student, someone curious about the pharma world, or just here for the ride, I hope you find something that resonates with you!

Intro:

Life has a funny way of steering us in unexpected directions. For me, it all began right after my intermediate exams. Just when I thought I could finally take a break and figure out my next steps, the world came to a halt—literally. The COVID-19 lockdown hit, and like many others, I found myself stuck at home, wondering, “What’s next?”

This is the story of how that uncertainty led me to find my passion in pharmacy—a field I hadn’t initially considered but now can’t imagine my life without.

The Unexpected Pause: Life After Intermediate

Two days after my final intermediate exams, the world went into lockdown. Everything stopped—no college admissions, no travel, no meetups with friends. It felt like life was put on pause. But in that stillness, my mind was racing. I kept asking myself, “What do I want to do with my life?”

I had already applied for the EAMCET exam, but deep down, something didn’t feel right. I wasn’t sure if that was the path I wanted to take. The more I thought about it, the more I realized I wanted a career that was stable, meaningful, and impactful.

Why Healthcare?

One thing the pandemic made very clear was the importance of the healthcare sector. While other industries faced recessions and job cuts, healthcare professionals were on the frontlines, making a difference. That got me thinking: Healthcare will never lose its value. People will always need medical professionals, medications, and care.

I had chosen Bi.P.C (Biology, Physics, Chemistry) in my intermediate, so I knew I wanted to be somewhere in the medical field. But what exactly? The options were endless—nursing, physiotherapy, cardiology, anesthesia, and of course, MBBS. But none of these felt like the right fit for me.

Why Not MBBS?

Many people around me were choosing MBBS, but I knew it wasn’t for me. I’m not the most patient person in the world, and the thought of dealing with intense, high-pressure situations every day didn’t sit well with me. I can control my emotions when needed, but I didn’t see myself thriving in that environment.

I wanted to be in the healthcare sector, making a difference, but in a way that suited my personality. That’s when pharmacy caught my attention.

Falling in Love with Pharmacy

When I first visited my college, something unexpected happened. I saw a notice on the board that read:

"We are pharmacists who can convert dangerous chemicals into life-saving drugs."

That one sentence changed everything for me. It was like a lightbulb went off in my head. I realized I didn’t need to be in the spotlight to make a difference. Pharmacy offered me the perfect balance—I could contribute to healthcare, innovate, and help save lives, all while staying behind the scenes.

In that moment, I knew I had found my calling.

My First Year: A Mix of Challenges and Realizations

My first year of B.Pharmacy was nothing like I had imagined. Thanks to the pandemic, classes were online, but exams were offline. It was a weird mix of sitting at home, staring at a screen all day, and then suddenly heading to college for exams. But in a way, it was thrilling.

The more I learned about pharmacy, the more passionate I became. From understanding how drugs are formulated to realizing the critical role pharmacists play in healthcare, every lesson made me more confident that I had chosen the right path.

The Struggles of B.Pharmacy: A Journey Full of Challenges

Now, as much as I loved my chosen field, it wasn’t all smooth sailing. My B.Pharmacy journey, from first year to final year, was full of struggles and tough moments. From adjusting to new learning methods to mastering complex subjects, there were plenty of hurdles to overcome.

But the most interesting part? I realized that those struggles were exactly what shaped me.

In my next blog, I’ll be diving deeper into those struggles—how I dealt with tough exams, balancing online and offline classes, learning lab techniques, and handling the overwhelming workload. Trust me, it wasn’t easy, but each challenge taught me something valuable, and I can’t wait to share those experiences with you.

Final Thoughts

If you’re someone struggling to figure out your path, know that it’s okay to feel lost. Sometimes, the answers come when you least expect them. Trust the process, explore your options, and listen to your gut. You might just find your passion where you least expect it—just like I did with pharmacy.
